It's now possible for your customers to share photos on your website across the major social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Tumblr. Social sharing buttons are only available on the Grande, Maxis and Xposure templates (it is not available on the Event templates).
Please note: This is the first iteration of our plans for social sharing, with more sharing options to come in the future. You can "Like" an image on Facebook, Tweet an image (with an opportunity to add copy), "Plus" it via Google+ or share it to your Tumblr blog.
To enable social sharing on your website you will need to log into your PhotoMerchant account and go to the Settings tab. It's important to note that Social Sharing is only available on the Plus+ and Premium plans.

Under Social Sharing click the Enabled option. If you would like to apply Social Sharing options to all of your current galleries by default, make sure the "Apply to all galleries on save" is selected.

Select the social network options you would like to appear across your website.

Save the settings on the page and you should now be able to see social sharing options across your website's galleries
You have the ability to set social sharing on a per gallery basis, custom page (by gallery) and under website layout.

Now go out there and start sharing!
NOTE: Social sharing cannot be enabled for private (i.e. password protected) galleries.

I understand why it would be set that way, but can I please confirm that social sharing isn't available on protected galleries?
Hey guys, Can you please check something for me.
I have turned on the newly updated Social Media Sharing buttons that come out with last update but I am finding that I can share on the G+ network, Twitter (I don't use Tumblr therefore I am unable to test it myself) but I am unable to share any image from any gallery across Facebook. I have asked a couple of friends to test it for me and they have replied that they couldn't share it in their news stream on Facebook. They can 'Like' it and that's it. I was under the impression that clients could share an image across Facebook etc with the description and a link back to your website.
I have checked to ensure that everything is turned on in all the right spots (as detailed above).
Could you guys provide an answer.
@ Fiona - Social sharing is not available on protected Galleries.
@ Gavin - There are two ways to promote an image (or anything) with facebook. One is to "Share" where you have an opportunity to add a comment to the post before it is added to the news feed, and the other is to "Like" an image. For this first iteration of our social sharing roll-out we've gone with a simple "liking" option. We will be adding the sharing buttons and more functionality later on.
What you can do is copy and paste your website address into a facebook status update and it will retain the image thumbnail, title, description and link back to your image. You can then add a write-up around the image here. (see example attached)
You've illustrated a good point and it's something I should amend in this announcement.
